If we are to believe that the Creator also wrote a book (such as the Bible) shouldn't we expect this book to contain an accurate understanding of how Creation operates?
1. The Bible says the sun revolves around the earth.
2. The Bible says the moon is a source of light.
3. The Bible says the sky is a dome
4. The Bible says the stars are little lights fixed in the sky-dome.
5. The Bible says the earth is small, flat and supported by pillars.
6. The Bible says the universe was created in six days.
7. The Bible says you can get to Heaven by building a really tall tower.
If the author of the Bible and the Creator of the universe are the same being, we should expect nothing less than 100% consistency between what the Bible says about the universe and what we observe in the universe.
Here's where the bible has it wrong with respect to creation of the universe and the earthThe universe is 13.6 billion years old, not 6000 years oldThe earth is 4.3 billion years old, not 6000 years old.The stars are suns billions of light-years away, not little specks of light that can be held in the hand of jesus.
Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars:
Shouldn't a book that is "God Breathed" be a little more accurate than that?
10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day
The sun cannot stand still. For it to "appear" that the sun stood still, the earth would have to stop rotating around it's axis..
20:9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
20:10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
20:11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
It is the very Creation, the natural universe, which speaks out loudly and clearly against the Bible and other vaunted books of so-called revelation. Since God is defined as the Creator, it follows that the natural universe, not a book written by humans, is the supreme Word of God. Our understanding of our Creator should be grounded first and foremost in our observations of Creation. Any supposed books of divine revelation that dont conform to these observations ought to be discarded as mythology.
The bible has it WRONG but you still have faith in the bible.
In other words, faith is the suppression of critical thinking
