4. Chapter Three

Here it is. The phrase that has caused so much bloodshed

3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

As an example to parents everywhere and to save the world (from himself), God had his own son tortured and killed; i.e.human sacrifice.

Would someone explain to me how this works?

"For God so loved the world"

The evidence of his love is found in the old testament where God laments time and again how evil we are. He kills or has killed in his name, over 2 million "enemies" of the jews. The description of the murders is so grusome that if depicted in TV, most people wouldn't watch it and it would be yanked off.

"that he gave is only begotten Son"

"Begotten"? What makes Jesus begotten?

He didn't impregnate Mary in an act of love.

He didn't raise Jesus, didn't go through the trials of parenting.

He's "begotten" by declaration.

"Only son"?

God could have had as many "sons" as he wanted.

Aren't we all children of God?

What makes him the Son of God?

How can he be the son of god did nothing to produce him?

How can he be the son of god when he IS god?

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,

You have to believe THIS cock-a-minny story instead of the myriad of other resurrection stories that were in vogue at the time.

See "The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors" by Kersey Graves.

but have everlasting life

Everlasting life!

What a comfortable thought!

What a great marketing tactic if you are trying to get your religion promoted as "the religion". It worked too.

"but that the world through him might be saved."

How does sending the only begotten son save the world?

God, since he so loved the world, could have easily saved the world by fiat. He killed off most everyone with a flood when he realized his initial mistake. Now, filled with love he could have turned the world into a paradise where there was no disease, no poverty, love everywhere.... a virtual paradise on earth for everyone that he loved.

But no, instead he tortures and sacrifices his son to himself - and there you have it - everyone who believes this 17th crucifixion story is "saved".

3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

The "wrath of God" is on me and all non-Christians? All four billion of us?

The "loving, merciful, omnipotent god" is going to eternally torture me because I don't believe unbelievable stories that have no evidence - that have to be accepted "on faith"?

God came down in a human suit to kill himself to save us from him.
